Sheikh Safi ad Din
egun in the fifteenth century, this mausoleum houses the Safavid dead. Despite the dynasty's relocation to
Esfahan, northern Iran remained its spiritual homeland, and many of its notable figures, including local potentates and generals are buried there. Over each of the major tombs rises a dome. The tallest is Shaykh Safi's, followed by Shah Esmail. The complex was restored and considerably expanded by Shah Abbas II in the second half of the seventeenth century.
It is located in Ardebil (East Azarbayejan).
