Other smaller Iranian lakes are mostly seasonal and also extremely saline. The Howz-Sultan Lake is situated between Tehran and Qom.

It is some 20 kilometers long, 15 kilometers wide, and covered with salt. Lake Hamoun is situated in East Sistan, with some part forming the joint border of Iran and Afghanistan. Bakhtegan Lake is the largest in the province of Fars. It is shallow and saline.
